A Winthrop man will face a judge today for allegedly having images of child pornography on his computer and sharing those images online.

William Krott, III, 30, was arrested yesterday and will be arrigned today on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

The investigation started late last year when a person in an Internet chat session shared an image of child pornography. The chat host’s monitoring system took a screen shot of the session and sent it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Chilren. The center sent the tip to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

Authorities said they obtained a subpoena to obtain the user’s IP computer address, which led them to Krott’s home.

“On Krott’s personal computer, they recoverd multiple images of children in sexualized contexts,” the Suffolk district attorney’s office said in a statement.

Krott will be arraigned in East Boston District Court today.
