Philadelphia School District Superintendent Hite’s revised plan expected in 24 hours

Philadelphia School District Superintendent William R. Hite Jr.’s revisions to his plan to close 37 district-run schools is expected sometime in the next 24 hours, school district spokesman Fernando Gallard said Monday.

The Harrisburg-based School Reform Commission, which oversees the school district, will vote to adopt Hite’s plan on March 7.

Hite has said the school district is facing a $1.3 billion deficit over five years. He claims the district would save about $28 million yearly and  $140 million a year over five years if the 37 schools closed.  But this does not include relocation costs of an estimated 17,000 students.
