The son of Boston police Commissioner Ed Davis was arrested last weekend for drunken driving, about two weeks after a city officer drove the son home for being too drunk after leaving the TD Garden.

Davis released a statement Monday that said his son, Phillip, told him that he was arrested Friday night in Plymouth, N.H., for driving under the influence of alcohol.

But in a statement, New Hampshire State Police said the arrest occurred about 3 a.m. Sunday. The 22-year-old was stopped by a trooper and arrested for driving while intoxicated. He had five passengers in his car who were charged with being minors in possession of alcohol. Those people are Cathryn McCarthy, 20, Annie McCarthy, 18, Meghan McCarthy, 18, all of Hudson, N.H., and Jordan McCarthy, 17, and Sheehan McCarthy, 20, both of Lowell.

The group was taken to the Plymouth Police Department for booking and released, state police said. They will be arraigned Feb. 28.

The police commissioner said in a statement that after the latest incident allegedly involving alcohol that his son will now be seeking treatement.

“Like many families that struggle with substance abuse, we are reaching out to experts to get Phillip the help he needs,” Davis said in the statement. “Jane and I love our son very much and are relieved that he has decided to seek treatment. This sudden and public challenge is the most difficult issue we have dealt with as a family, but we pray that Phillip will persevere and overcome this setback. We are thankful that no one has been hurt in this situation.”

The Globe reported earlier this month that Phillip Davis was leaving the TD Garden when he was stopped by a police officer for allegedly being intoxicated while behind the wheel. The officer allegedly drove Phillip Davis home after his shift. According to the Globe, the commissioner requested the incident be investigated by prosecutors.
