Forbes names Camden one of America’s most miserable cities

The good news is Philly isn’t on it. The bad news is Camden ranked 13th.
Forbes released its list of America’s 20 Most Miserable Cities this weekend and some old favorites made the grade. Detroit topped the list, which also carried 12 other Midwest cities. In a somewhat surprising development New York listed at 10 and Chicago at 4.
Camden’s high crime and poverty rates were major factors in its rating.
“New statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau labelled Camden the most impoverished city in the U.S. with 42.5% of residents living below the poverty line,” according to the website.
The business magazine listed nine factors for the 200 largest metro areas in the U.S. The metrics include the serious: violent crime, unemployment, foreclosures, taxes (income and property) and home prices. Quality-of-life issues like commute times and weather were also considered.
