Veteran Philly cop arrested for DUI after car accident

A 23-year-old veteran of the Philadelphia Police department was arrested for Driving Under the Influence last night following a car accident, police said.

Joseph Kelly, 53, was involved in an accident at the 4900 block of Woodland Avenue around 9 p.m., police said in a news release. He was off duty.

Kelly, who was a member of the traffic unit, was suspected to be drunk at the scene of the accident, which was confirmed after police later administered a breathalyzer test. His Blood Alcohol Content was not made available.

He will be assigned to administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation, police said. He was charged with DUI and other offenses.
