Reputed mob soldier indicted for South Philadelphia homicide
A grand jury has indicted reputed mob soldier Anthony Nicodemo, 42, on first degree murder charges in connection with the Dec. 12 slaying of 51-year-old Gino DiPietro.
DiPietro was shot multiple times outside his home on the 2800 block of Iseminger Street in South Philadelphia and died at a local hospital.
Nicodemo’s vehicle was allegedly seen speeding away from the scene. He was arrested the next day.
Rumors last year painted Nicodemo as a mob solider under Joseph “Uncle Joe” Ligambi and DiPietro as an informant who drew the ire of the alleged crime syndicate. DiPietro’s family members disputed the characterization.
Nicodemo is charged by indictment with first degree murder, third degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and weapons offenses. Indicting grand juries – which were recently given the green light in Pennsylvania – are generally used in cases where witness intimidation poses a threat to prosecution.
Nicodemo is jailed without bail following a status hearing yesterday at the Criminal Justice Center. He is next due in court on April 1 for a formal arraignment.
