Dorchester shooting is latest in recent spate

Four people have been shot, one fatally, in a recent spate of shootings that have police meeting with community members. 

The recent violence was highlighted last week when police witnessed a brazen mid-afternoon shootout in Roxbury that was also caught on tape. Since that March 26 shooting, there have been at least six incidents of people firing guns that have resulted in multiple people shot.

The most recent shooting took place about 11:30 a.m. Monday near Dacia and Quincy streets in Dorchester. One person was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police were still investigating and released few details Monday. There were no arrests by press time.

The shooting took place just hours before police were expected to attend a community meeting in Jamaica Plain following a fatal shooting Sunday night. City Councilor Matt O’Malley tweeted that police would be in attendance at his town hall meeting.

Boston police did not respond to a request for comment by press time. 

Sunday’s shooting occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Officers responded to Minden Street for a person shot and found a 26-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. He later died at Brigham and Women’s.

Also within the last week, two people were seriously injured when they were shot Thursday night near 1178 Blue Hill Ave.

As of the latest data available, the number of shootings and homicides in the city was on pace with the totals from last year.

As of March 26, there were 25 non-fatal shootings in Boston, the same number as that time last year.

So far this year there have been eight homicides with about the same number at this time last year.
