A former Penn State football player was arrested Tuesday morning in Atlantic City after he allegedly sprayed a fire extinguisher inside the Public Safety Building.

A Drexel Hill man and former offensive lineman at Penn State was arrested multiple times in Atlantic City on Monday and Tuesday–the final arrest coming after he allegedly caused the evacuation of the Jersey Shore resort town’s Public Safety Building.

Atlantic City police allege Thomas McHugh, 29, sprayed a fire extinguisher at several people after he found himself in a restricted area of the Public Safety Building at around 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, the Press of Atlantic City reports.

McHugh allegedly sprayed three police officers in the face as they attempted to detain the Drexel Hill man, who had been released from a holding cell in the building at around 8 a.m. following a theft and disorderly conduct arrest Monday night. Several others working in the area were impacted by the powder that filled the building.

A total of 16 people, including McHugh, were hospitalized following the incident.

McHugh, who now faces three charges of assault on police and a host of other charges in connection with the incident, played at Penn State until he was dismissed from the team in October 2003 for legal issues.
