About 300 potential pot shop pioneers turned out at the Sheraton yesterday, eager to learn the ins and outs of a budding Massachusetts business opportunity – marijuana dispensaries.

Medbox Inc. CEO Bruce Bedrick hosted the event, which shed light on new state regulations. The herb will be prescribed to Massachusetts patients suffering from chronic disease.

One message was clear during yesterday’s free seminar – opening a dispensary is no easy undertaking.

“This is a risky, up and down industry. You have to want to be in it, to chew steel and spit out nails, because this process isn’t easy,” Bedrick said. “You have to put your best foot forward to get one of the 35 licenses.”

For applicants to be considered for a license they must prove that they are a non-profit organization incorporated in Massachusetts; that they have at least have $500,000 in an escrow account; and that they have not been convicted of a felony drug offense.
