A grand jury is expected to announce its findings Monday afternoon in connection with the alleged Jan. 14 abduction and rape of a 5-year-old W.C. Bryant Elementary School student.

The child was signed out of the West Philadelphia school by a woman wearing Muslim garb and reported missing by family members at dismissal time.

Police said she was walked to a home in the area of the 6200 block of Walton Avenue, where she was allegedly blindfolded and sexually assaulted.

A passerby found the girl early the next morning in an Upper Darby playground, shivering and clad only in an adult male t-shirt.

Though investigators said they were honing in on several suspects and believed as many as three people to be responsible for the horrific crime, only one person has so far been arrested.

Bryant after-school worker Christina Regusters, 19, was taken into custody Feb. 14 and charged with indecent assault, kidnapping for ransom, rape, conspiracy, unlawful contact with a minor, unlawful restraint, custodial interference, corruption of minors, concealing whereabouts, possession of an instrument of crime, reckless endangerment and false imprisonment.

Her attorneys said at the time of a scheduled hearing on March 6 that an indicting grand jury was being convened to look into the case and identify possible co-conspirators.

The District Attorney’s Office is expected to present the secret grand jury’s findings during a hearing scheduled for 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Counsel for both Regusters and for the victim have stated they don’t believe the woman acted alone.

Regusters has been in protective custody at the Northampton County Jail since she was reportedly assaulted in Philadelphia prison.
