VIDEO: U.S. cargo plane falls out of the sky at Afghan air base
An astonishing dashcam video has emerged of the moment a jumbo jet fell out of the sky, just seconds after take off at an Afghan air base.
Seven crew members died yesterday when the American owned cargo plane crashed at the Bagram base near Kabul.
Filmed on what appears to be the dashcam of an airfield vehicle, the video shows the plane taking off apparently normally, before its nose suddenly pitches sharply upwards. Within seconds the jumbo jet has entered an uncontrollable stall and it dives, nose-down, into the ground, exploding in a fireball.
The plane was operated by National Air Cargo, which denied immediate claims by local Taliban that it had downed the jet with a missile. Sources in Kabul today said a ‘load-shift’ was being blamed for the crash. The jet was carrying military vehicles and it is feared that they may have shifted on take off, dramatically altering the weight balance, and therefore the handling of the plane.
No details have yet been released of the seven crew members who died. It is known that before it landed in Kabul, it had been in France and earlier in the week, in Salt Lake City.
