Two men, two women arrested for Delaware bank robbery

Delaware State Police have arrested four people in connection with an armed bank robbery in Dover on Monday.

Police said two gunmen around 1:30 p.m. entered the M&T Bank at East Lebanon Road and South State Street and demanded money from the tellers.

The men allegedly fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A trooper in the area heard a description of the suspects broadcast over the police radio and saw two people resembling the men getting into a silver car just south of the bank.

As the officer approached, one of the men – later identified as Larry Pierce, 30 – allegedly tried to flee on foot. Investigators said he was quickly apprehended.

Authorities allegedly recovered a stolen bag of cash and a loaded .22 caliber handgun from Pierce.

Pierce was treated by paramedics for a minor hand injury he sustained after the dye pack in the stolen money exploded, according to police.

The second man then fled the area in the car.

The trooper broadcast a description of the suspect vehicle and other troopers, along with officers from neighboring counties, located the car driving south on State Street.

Investigators conducted a traffic stop on Cool Springs Road.

That’s when the second man, later identified as Phillip Yates, 30, allegedly tried to run away.

Police said he was quickly taken into custody.

Two women in the car – driver Vannessa Singletary, 26, and passenger Dashunda Harmon, 25 – were also arrested.

Authorities said a loaded .22 caliber handgun was found in the backseat where Yates was seen exiting.

A search of the vehicle also allegedly turned up more than 50 grams of marijuana.

All four suspects are charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Singletary is also charged with marijuana possession, while Pierce and Yates are charged with resisting arrest and possession with the intent to deliver.

Pierce and Yates, both of Dover, are jailed at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $204,000 cash bond.

Singletary, of Suffolk, Va., is being held at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $203,500 cash bond and Harmon, of Milton, Del., is being held on $193,000.00 cash bond.

No tellers or patrons were injured during the bank robbery.
