A 19-year-old New Orleans man was charged on Thursday with 20 counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection with a shooting at a Mother’s Day parade.

Officials now say 20 people were injured in the incident on Sunday, up from the 19 previously reported.

Akein Scott was arrested late Wednesday in New Orleans, police said. At a hearing early Thursday, a judge set Scott’s bail at $10 million, or $500,000 for each count.

Scott, wearing an orange jumpsuit, did not speak at the hearing.

A girl and a boy, both 10, were among those wounded when gunfire erupted at the parade, sending shockwaves through the city. Three of the victims remain hospitalized in stable to critical condition. The others have been released.

Police on Monday identified Scott as a suspect in the shooting. They did not disclose how he was apprehended.

New Orleans police had released photos earlier on Monday from surveillance video that showed a person firing into a crowd, which led to tips from the public and Scott’s identification.

Violent crime in New Orleans ranks above the national average in FBI surveys. A poll in 2010 found crime to be residents’ greatest concern.

In February, four people were wounded in a shooting outside a nightclub in the city’s French Quarter as crowds gathered for Mardi Gras celebrations.
