PHOTOS: Philly PrideDay celebrates silver anniversary
PrideDay, Philadelphia’s annual LGBT parade and festival, held its silver anniversary on Sunday, marking the event’s 25th year.
And participants had plenty to celebrate – many are calling 2013 a landmark year for LGBT rights.
Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island and Minnesota earlier this year legalized same-sex.
Locally, Mayor Michael Nutter signed into law a bill introduced by Councilman Jim Kenney that made Philadelphia the first U.S. city to grant tax credits to businesses that offer equally accessible health care to LGBT employees and their spouses.
A record 102 state legislators in May signed on as sponsors of bipartisan companion bills protecting Pennsylvanians from employment, housing and credit discrimination on the basis of gender identity, sexual expression or sexual orientation.
Organizers described this year’s PrideDay as the biggest – and best – event of its kind to date, with more than 160 participating organizations and vendors.
