Sagamore Bridge hit-and-run leaves one man dead
A hit-and-run at the base of the Sagamore Bridge left one man dead and several others injured on Thursday night.
A spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police told the Cape Cod Times that the 8:02 p.m. crash was in the westbound lane of Route 3 at the Scusset Beach Road exit.
The Times reports that after the crash, police issued an alert to be on the lookout for a dark-colored pickup truck with heavy front-end damage headed toward Cape Cod. The driver who allegedly caused the accident took off from the scene, according to state police.
A man driving a minivan was killed in the accident, while his five passengers were taken to the hospital with injuries. The single occupant of a second pickup truck was ejected and was taken to South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth with life-threatening injuries, says the Times.
The bridge, which crosses over the Cape Cod Canal, is what connects the Cape with the rest of Massachusetts.
Anyone with information was encouraged to call the Bourne State Police barracks at (508) 759-4488.
