An online fundraiser is chipping away at the hope of raising $30,000 for Boston Marathon bombing hero Carlos Arrendondo, who saved the life of double amputee Jeff Bauman after two bombs tore through Boylston Street on April 15.

Lori Tosches, of Milford, spearheaded the online push so that Arrendondo could buy a new pickup truck.

“He is an amazing man, and he’s had so much heartache. He really is a hero,” said Tosches, who connected with Arrendondo and his wife, Melida, through her Boston Strong Ducks Facebook page.

Arredondo has driven his truck all over the country in memory of his son who was killed in Iraq in 2004. The 2002 truck’s troubles started with an air conditioning issue, but when he took it in for repair, he learned that the truck had a plethora of ailments.

“People have been generous and doing amazing things since the bombings,” Arrendondo said. “It’s amazing how people come together. I’m very grateful that someone came up with the idea.”

The pickup has 160,000 miles, Arrendondo said, adding that he’s still driving it, but bought a bicycle as a backup.

Over the last 12 days, 109 people have donated $5,000.

“I will keep it going, and I will sell cookies for Carlos if I have to,” said Tosches. “I think he deserves a little good karma his way.”
