Pennsylvania sues Montco for issuing gay marriage licenses
Pennsylvania filed a lawsuit yesterday against it’s own county – Montgomery – for illegally issuing marriage licenses for gay and lesbian couples.
Last week the county’s register of wills, Bruce Hanes, granted 31 licenses to same-sex couples in defiance of state law.
Ray McGarry, the county solicitor, said in a statement the Department of Health’s petition has serious flaws.
“Montgomery County will be filing a response shortly,” he said. “In the meantime, the Register of Wills office will continue to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.”
