Robber snatches pet parrot out of owner’s hands
An armed robber has been charged after stealing a pet parrot out of a Bronx woman’s hands Monday, police said.
Darryyl Walker followed the victim into her apartment building in the Morris Housing complex in Tremont about 3 p.m. Monday, police said. He rode the elevator with her as she carried her parrot, Cuca, in a cage.
As the 67-year-old victim exited on the 11th floor, Walker – believed to be carrying a gun – snatched the bird and fled the building, according to police.
The woman called 911, and cops responded to the scene.
Police were able to identify Walker in surveillance videos. He was apprehended at his home Tuesday. Walker confessed to the robbery and told police he had sold the parrot.
Walker, who was on parole for robbery, has been charged with robbery, grand larceny, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police are now asking for the public’s help in locating the missing parrot. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1(800) 577-TIPS (8477). Cops released a photo of a parrot that looks similar to Cuca.
