After allowing its contract with a service provider to expire July 31 without a successor in place, the Delaware River Port Authority is now vowing to repair all escalators and elevators at its Port Authority Transit Corp. Hi-Speedline train stations as soon as possible.

The Courier-Post reports this morning that the west elevator and east escalator at PATCO’s Broadway station in Camden are not in working order. Also reported to be disabled are Philadelphia’s Eighth and Market north and south escalators, the escalator at 13th and Locust, and both the escalator and the elevator at 15th-16th and Locust.

DRPA CEO and PATCO President John Matheussen issued an apology on the PATCO website:

We let PATCO customers down, and we apologize. Our customers deserve much more from us. We’re in the process of putting an interim contract in place, and we hope to have the out-of-service elevators and escalators working as soon as possible. This should never have happened, and we’re working to make sure it never happens again.
