Group buying program aims to cut solar energy costs
A new three-month program aims to make the installation of solar panels at homes and businesses more affordable and accessible throughout the city.
Renew Boston Solarize, a group buying program, will fit into the city’s Greenovate Boston initiative, which strives to engage residents and businesses in helping reduce Boston’s carbon footprint.
According to officials, the more people who sign up for solar installation, the more prices will drop. The campaign is similar to Boston’s participation last year in Solarize Mass – Boston, through which more than 100 Boston residents, including Mayor Thomas M. Menino, installed solar panels on their homes.
This year, Menino has set a goal of 150 new residential-scale solar power installations.
Starting in September, free Solar 201 workshops will be held in neighborhoods across the city.
