The poky little subway track kittens that held up thousands of Brooklyn commuters Thursday for two hours will soon be available for adoption.

The Animal Care and Control Center in East New York, Brooklyn, is holding the two curious cats that took a nap under the third rail at Brooklyn’s Church Avenue station in Ditmas Park on Thursday morning. The furry pair caused the MTA to halt service on the B and Q lines for two hours during the morning rush, upsetting commuters on their way to work.

The MTA shut down power on the lines to avoid electrocuting or running over the kittens, but employees were unable to retrieve the cuddly creatures for hours. Starting around 11 a.m., the B was out of service for 90 minutes, while the Q stayed out for two hours.

Service resumed in the afternoon despite the fact that the kittens were still hanging out under the tracks. They snuggled up against each other and slept under the third rail as trains rushed overhead.

It took four people to rescue the eight-week-old kittens in the evening. Two MTA employees and two NYPD officers finally retrieved the kittens at 6:30 p.m. and transferred them to a shelter in East New York.

The gray tabby and black kittens, Arthur and August, are being transferred to an Animal Care and Control foster home, where they’ll receive care and socialization with other cats. Richard Gentles, director of development and communications at Animal Care and Control, told Metro that New York’s most famous kittens will be up for adoption in a few weeks after “much-needed TLC.”
