Man hangs self in Brooklyn jail cell
A 29-year-old man committed suicide in a jail cell at the 61st precinct in Sheepshead Bay, police reported.
Cops said he was discovered at 5:45 a.m. hanging from a shirt tied around his neck.
The sergeant who found him unconscious and unresponsive untied the shirt, called for help and tried to revive him until emergency medical personnel arrived to take him to Coney Island Hospital, police said.
Police said the suicide attempt happened on Aug. 30, and the man was pronounced dead on Thursday.
Police have not released the man’s identity pending notification of his family.
The man was reportedly arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
