Former Governor George Pataki and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos endorsed Joe Lhota for mayor on Tuesday.

The two Republicans are well-known for their “crossover” appeal to conservative Democrats and independents, a voting bloc that is crucial for a Republican candidate in New York City.

“Throughout his career in public service Joe Lhota has been the kind of leader who not only brings people together, but he keeps them together to get the job done,” said former Governor George Pataki.

Current Governor Andrew Cuomo stood with Bill Thompson and Bill de Blasio on Monday, as Thompson conceded the Democratic nomination to de Blasio. Thompson is technically still a candidate, however, until the Board of Elections has finished re-canvassing all votes.

Lhota praised his endorsers in turn as “great New York leaders.”

“Governor Pataki and Majority Leader Skelos are true examples of sensible and responsible governing that resonates with all New Yorkers,” Lhota said.

Lhota and de Blasio are both on a tear, shoring up support from the former endorsers of their primary rivals. Lhota has even attempted to reach out to some groups that endorsed Democrats in the primary.

Lhota met with DC 37 Tuesday morning, one of the city’s largest and most powerful unions.

But DC 37 officially endorsed Bill de Blasio a few hours later.

A new poll from the Wall Street Journal, NBC and Marist Tuesday had de Blasio beating Lhota 65% to 22%.
