Portions of I-93 in Hooksett, N.H. are currently shut down due to a major accident, causing serious delays throughout the highway.

According to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation Twitter account, the breakdown lanes on both sides of the highway are currently shut down due to a multi-vehicle accident near the state liquor store.

“NH TRAFFIC ALERT: Hooksett I-93 north and southbound the left lanes are closed due to an accident expect delays keep right drive safely,” the alert reads.

New Hampshire Transportation Department spokesman Bill Boynton told FOX 25 that a tire came off a vehicle that was headed southbound Wednesday morning. The tire headed into the northbound lanes, slamming into a state police cruiser and hitting another vehicle.

“It’s possible the tire came off a modular home,”  Lt. Nicole Armaganian of the state police told the Concord Monitor, adding that the driver of the trailer may have not recognized that the tire flew off. “We don’t have the modular home trailer right now,” she said.

Traffic is currently inching along through the area. State police are asking that drivers attempt to move cautiously through the area, or that they seek out a different route, according to WBZ.
