One man is in custody in connection with a shooting and robbery in Juniata Park early Thursday morning that left a 20-year-old woman in critical condition.

Police said two women, aged 20 and 21, were shortly before 2:30 a.m. walking on the 1000 block of Luzerne Street toward Palmetto Street when they were approached by two unknown men.

The first man, who investigators said was armed with a black handgun, demanded the women’s property.

He allegedly grabbed the 20-year-old woman and began rifling through her pockets, taking $1 in cash and a SEPTA token.

The second man placed the 21-year-old woman on the ground and took from her $200 in cash, according to authorities.

Police said the gunman then told the 21-year-old woman to run away.

As the woman was fleeing, she told police she heard two gunshots.

She then hid underneath a parked car at I Street and Erie Avenue until she spotted police.

The 20-year-old woman was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where she underwent surgery for two gunshot wounds.

She was on Thursday listed in extremely critical condition.

Officers a short time after the shooting stopped a 29-year-old suspect near the crime scene.

He was arrested and was Thursday afternoon still being processed.

Police are still looking for the second suspect in the robbery.

He is described as a 5-foot-11-inch tall black male in his early 20s weighing about 160 pounds.

He was last seen wearing an olive green hoodie and camouflage pants.

Anyone with information on the suspect or crime is asked to contact the East Detectives Division at 215-686-3243 or 3244, or to submit an anonymous tip by dialing 215-686-TIPS (8477), texting PPD TIP (773847), emailing tips@phillypolice.com or by filling out this online form.
