Teen driver runs down family of three in South End
A teenager was cited by police after running down a family of three in the South End on Sunday.According to Boston Police, a couple was walking with their 1-year-old son at the corner of Dartmouth Street and Columbus Avenue about 3 p.m. when they were hit by the teen’s Nissan Murano.
Both parents were on the ground injured when police arrived; their child was unharmed in his stroller.
Witnesses told police that the suspect’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it swerved onto the wrong side of Columbus Avenue and struck the pedestrians at the corner of Dartmouth.
“I heard a very big, loud screeching sound and then a shouting sound, like somebody screaming, then the collision sound,” one witness told WCVB.
The teen driver said she was trying to avoid a taxi coming at her when she lost control. She was issued a citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and for having a passenger in her vehicle as a junior driver.
The couple was transported to local hospitals, where they were treated for serious injuries. Their child was taken to Tufts Medical Center as a precaution.
