Woman gets stuck on railroad bridge during Florida breast cancer walk
A woman who was participating in a breast cancer walk Saturday in Florida trespassed onto a railroad bridge that is closed to pedestrians when it suddenly began to rise, leaving her suspended vertically, clinging to the structure and screaming for help.
Witnesses snapped photographs of the unidentified woman as she waited, still clutching her pink purse, for rescue officials to arrive. She was reportedly uninjured.
Philip Glazebrook told NBC6, “This bridge is controlled from Tallahassee. There’s not a bridge minder here anymore. So she’s stuck on the bridge and she’s going up. The next thing is, she’s stuck, straddled like Jesus Christ.”
Another witness, Ashanicka Powell, told the news outlet the bizarre rescue may have helped the event’s cause.
“To me that helped in the fight of cancer. So many people are ready to give up the fight and are still hanging in there. That just symbolized that.”
