Suffolk Downs announces $40 million upgrade for casino
Suffolk Downs plans to unveil a $40 million racing improvement plan that will include renovations, viewing area enhancements, technology upgrades, dormitory construction and resurfaced racing areas, the track announced today.
The plan is part of the track’s proposal to develop a $1 billion casino resort at the historic 78-year-old racetrack.
According to Spokesman Christian Teja, details of the investment project will be released Thursday at Indian Rock Stables, a thoroughbred breeding farm located in Saugus. Suffolk Downs said today that a new study of Massachusetts’ thoroughbred industry found that the industry would see a 57 percent increase should the track earn a gaming license.
The industry currently generates 1,486 jobs and includes 133 farms and more than 6,000 acres of open space, according to Teja.
