Roxbury iPad robber slams woman’s head into sidewalk: Police

A man accused in a violent attack in Roxbury in which police say he slammed a woman’s head into a sidewalk and stole her iPad was arraigned on Monday.

James Keane, 47, pleaded not guilty to robbery, assault and larceny charges and was ordered held on $5,000 bail, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

The incident started with a call to a Roxbury pharmacy about 2 p.m. on Oct. 13. When officers arrived, they found a 45-year-old woman semi-conscious on the floor and bleeding.

The woman was taken to Boston Medical Center, where she later told police that he got into an argument in the store with a man she knew only as “Jimmy.” She said she left and was approached by him outside at a nearby bank. That’s when the man pushed her to the ground, smashed her head into the sidewalk and took off with her iPad, the woman told authorities.

Police reviewed surveillance images from the store and put together a wanted poster. Other officers recognized the man and identified him as Keane, authorities said.

Investigators interviewed Keane and he denied attacking the woman. However, authorities said they charged him based on his admission that he was at the store, the surveillance images and additional evidence at the scene.

Keane is due back in court next month.
