For the first time in more than a generation, the Boston Red Sox have won the World Series at Fenway Park and fans couldn’t be more excited.

“My house is crazy right now. Cause RED SOX NATION HEREEEEE.,” tweeted @IronicLainey.

Other fans said they wished they could be outside celebrating, but police quickly discouraged that.

“Moving folks out of the area will help keep people safe,” Boston police said on its Twitter page.

At about midnight Boston police reported that seven people had been arrested for “unruly behavior.” Boston police Commissioner Ed Davis said at around the end of the game that people were throwing bottles along Ipswich Street.

A crowd being forced down Boylston Street toward the Public Garden were hitting car windows and cheering loudly. A picture on Twitter showed an overturned car on Boylston Street.

Meanwhile, during the game, fans seemed to be counting the seconds until the ninth inning for what appeared to be a guaranteed win and post game celebration with pitcher John Lackey holding the St. Louis Cardinals scoreless and the Sox racking up six runs halfway through the game.

Countless people crowded bars and restaurants in the Kenmore Square area early in the evening. Police said in the top of the fifth inning, at about 9:45 p.m., that bars had reached capacity and, as promised, they dispersed lines and asked people not inside a bar to leave the area.

Police and city officials said before the World Series that the safety plan for a clinching game called for closing the Fenway and Kenmore Square area to traffic and pedestrians at about the seventh inning. People were allowed to leave the area on foot, but no one was allowed into the area.

Sox fans flooded Twitter with excitement following the final out:
