Friends don’t let friends wear Google Glass and drive, apparently.

A California woman learned this the hard way when she got a ticket in San Diego county for driving while wearing Google Glass, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Cecilia Abadie, 44, of Temecula, Calif., was stopped by a California Highway Patrol officer when he suspected her of speeding. He gave her a ticket instead for wearing the high-tech computer. Google Glass is still in testing and is not available for sale.

Authorities told the Times that it is illegal to “drive a motor vehicle if a television receiver, a video monitor, or a television or video screen, or any other means of visually displaying a television broadcast or video signal that produces entertainment or business applications is operating and is located in the motor vehicle at a point forward of the back of the driver’s seat, or is operating and the monitor, screen, or display is visible to the driver while driving the motor vehicle.” They said Google Glass falls under this category. They also told the Times they believe Abadie is the first person to receive a ticket for wearing Google Glass.

Google+ users rallied around the woman and started the hashtag #freececilia. Several of them are encouraging Abadie to fight the ticket in court. Abadie wrote on her Google+ page, “I just really wanted to thank all of my friends at the #GlassExplorers Community big time! All this time being an Explorer the community experience has been amazing but the way you all came together on this is very humbling and supporting!” Google Glass testers are called Glass Explorers.

A Google spokesperson told Metro, “As we make clear in our help center, Explorers should always use Glass responsibly and put their safety and the safety of others first. More broadly, Glass is built to connect you more with the world around you, not distract you from it. It’s early days for Glass and we look forward to hearing feedback from Explorers and others in advance of a wider consumer launch next year.”
