Dispute over double parking turns deadly in West Philadelphia
A 23-year-old man is dead after he and another man exchanged gunfire in an apparent dispute over double parking in West Philadelphia early Sunday.
Philadelphia police are investigating the fatal shooting on the 100 block of North Dewey Street and have questioned the private security guard who killed Mark Ellis, 23, 6ABC Action News reports.
The security guard reportedly was double parked while he waited for his sister outside a party on Dewey Street about 3 a.m. Sunday when Ellis, who had dropped off his fiancee at her home, drove down the block looking to park his car. The two men exchanged words, then gunfire when Ellis was unable to pass.
Ellis was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to his chest.
The security guard, who was on duty at the time, told investigators he shot Ellis in self-defense after being shot in his finger when he grabbed for the other man’s gun, CBS Philly reports.
