Sinkhole swallows police car in South Jersey
A large sinkhole swallowed a police cruiser in South Jersey on Thanksgiving.
The incident happened about 4 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Ninth Terrace and Beethoven Street in Egg Harbor City, Atlantic County, the Press of Atlantic City reports.
An Egg Harbor police officer drove his patrol vehicle into the sinkhole, which measured about 10 feet long, 6 feet wide and 4 feet deep. He was not hurt.
The sinkhole was caused by a water main break, which left about four to five dozen homes and businesses without water. Officials feared the situation would require those impacted by the break to boil their water.
