The town of Boxford scored the most snow from Winter Storm Hercules, measuring in at about 2 feet by Friday morning.

Late Thursday night, the National Weather Service said the town, which is about 25 miles north of Boston, had recorded 53cm of snow.

Along the South Shore, the National Weather Service suggested evacuation due to flooding in towns like Duxbury and Scituate, adding that the flood risk could rise near midday Friday.

“The Friday midday high tide is the one of greatest concern given the expected combination of the astronomical tide, surge and wave action,” the National Weather Service said on its website.

The Massachusetts Emergency Medical Agency asked residents to stay home if possible, as roadways were covered in snow and ice, so that plows could continue to clear roads.

Gov. Deval Patrick previously said in a news conference Thursday that state offices would be closed on Friday, and he hoped others would follow suit.

“The point is to keep people off of the roads and indoors and away from the cold, which is extreme,” Patrick said, Metro previously reported. He also cautioned people to stay indoors as the state is expected to experience extreme cold, with wind chill in parts of the state to drop to -25 and -30 degrees.
