A Massachusetts Department of Transportation employee is accused of bringing child pornography with him to his office at the department’s Merit Rating Board Division in Quincy and viewing it on his work computer.

Andrew Fanguiaire, 48, of Weymouth was arrested Wednesday night, and appeared in Quincy District Court Thursday to face one count of possession of child pornography, according to the state Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office, which led the investigation.

Bail was set at $5,000 bail on the conditions that Fanguiaire be monitored via GPS, remain in the state, have no contact children, stay away from schools, parks, and any other places where children congregate, and be subject to random visits from probation.

“We allege that this defendant, a state employee, possessed child pornography and accessed it from his home and at his workplace. We thank MassDOT for their diligence in detecting this disturbing activity and for immediately bringing this matter to our attention,” said Coakley.

An investigation was launched after an information security officer at MassDOT informed law enforcement that a network computer may have been used to access potentially inappropriate material. Further investigation revealed that it was allegedly the computer assigned to Fanguiaire, business manager at the rating board.

State Police seized media items from Fanguiaire’s office and home. Subsequent initial investigation of these items revealed several image and video files containing alleged child pornography. Authorities allege that Fanguiaire accessed these files at his residence and at work through USB drives.

Fanguiaire is due back in Quincy District Court on February 3 for a pre-trial conference.
