Natick honors beloved DPW employee killed in worksite accident
The town of Natick is coming together to honor a member of its community who died tragically last week.
A memorial is set for Monday morning to celebrate the life of Department of Public Works employee Michael F. McDaniel Jr., 48, who died on Tuesday during an accident at a work zone.
The Natick Police Department was notified Tuesday about an accident that had occurred involving a town employee, who was seriously hurt. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, McDaniel did not survive. A second DPW employee was hospitalized with serious injuries.
As to the nature of the accident, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office said in a statement that “a backhoe was accidentally pulled forward, and the stabilizer of the backhoe struck two employees who were working in a trench.”
An online fundraising page has been created for McDaniel’s wife and 9-year-old daughter.
