What we’re into: Circus workouts

The real “Traces” show inspired the class at Crunch.

We’re not about to trade in our sneakers for clown shoes, but we have been getting a kick out of these Big Top-like activities in the Big Apple.

Trapeze lessons at Trapeze School New York:
You’ll fly through the air with the greatest of ease at TSNY’s  weather-permitting outdoor setup. You’re securely harnessed during the two-hour intro lesson, where right off the bat you learn how to fly upside-down (hands-free!), do a back-flip dismount and even be caught by a partner. If you’re looking for a way to conquer a fear of heights, this is it. $50-$70, www.newyork.trapezeschool.com

Anti-Gravity Yoga at Om Factory:
Unlike trapeze lessons, this will likely make your heartbeat slow down. Get ready to tangle yourself up in a bright orange silk hammock and do all sorts of yoga twists and turns — including inversions — that bring you some stability, even as you float in mid-air. $20, www.omfactorynyc.com

TRACES at Crunch:
This class is based on the off-Broadway show of the same name, which features the Montreal-based acrobatic troupe 7 Fingers performing daredevil stunts a la Cirque du Soleil. While you won’t climb poles and flip in the air like the performers do, you will learn a dance with moves that would fit in comfortably on the show’s stage. Metro readers can score a one-week guest pass to any NYC Crunch gym by bringing in this article — and get $30 off tickets to “Traces” when they book through they Ticketmaster website, call or visit the box office and use TRMETRO.

Valid for performances through July 1, 2012; tickets subject to availability and blackout dates

Aerial Hoop at Body & Pole:
You’ll amaze yourself with your own capabilities to suspend from these metal hoops. The class requires serious upper-arm strength and flexibility, which you’ll work on during  warmup. This is an open-level lesson, so there might be some pros alongside you, but no worries — your instructor (shout-out to the awesome Elaina) will give you the literal and figurative support you need every step of the way. $25, www.bodyandpole.com
