Appealing new fitness apps

Get a peek at your own “after” on the ModiFace Weight Loss app.

Not even the fitness industry is exempt from the explosion of mobile technology. Whether you’re one of the thousands preparing for the annual New York City Marathon or just looking for an interactive way to stay healthy, these new fitness apps could be the difference between looking robust and just looking busted.

My Net Diary
Diabetes Tracker
The $4 Diabetes Tracker app has a built-in bar code scanner that records the nutrients, calorie count and carb count for the food it inspects; it also helps users keep track of their glucose, insulin, blood pressure, cholesterol and more.

GAIN Fitness 3.5
Why meet with a personal trainer when you could just download one? GAIN Fitness assigns users a virtual trainer who will perform each exercise and coach them through their sets and reps. The free app now boasts yoga and circuit strength-training in addition to lifting, stretching and simple calisthenics.

PaceDJ
If you’ve ever listened to music and found yourself walking to the beat of the song, you can testify to the motivation and energy it brings. This $2 application — which launched on iPhone last year and is now on Android — allows users to sync their running pace with the tempo of the music on their smartphone, allowing for a steadier experience.

ModiFace Weight Loss
We know losing weight isn’t easy — but it’s a lot easier if you can visualize the results. Submit a photo to this app and you’ll be able to modify the weight of your body in the picture — simulating a “before and after” effect. The premium version ($5) offers a personalized plan for shedding those extra pounds.
