5 spooktacular ideas for kids’ costumes

Costumes are available at Halloweencostumes.com.

Still in a tizzy about what to dress your little one up as for Halloween? Don’t despair. Leslie Venokur and Risa Goldberg, founders of Big City Moms (www.bigcitymoms. com), an online resource for New York? City moms and moms to be, shared with us the top trends they see for Halloween costumes this year.

1. The classics can’t be beat.

Venokur and Goldberg say the most popular costumes are still the classics, such as princess and storybook characters. For boys, superheroes are always clutch.

2. Use pop culture cues.
Other popular costumes? The founders say they see kids going as the iPhone, Lady Gaga and even as “Angry Birds.”

3. Dress kids as grown-ups.
Kids love to play pretend about what they’ll be when they grow up — why should it be any different for Halloween? Firemen, chefs, dancers and doctors are all  top choices.

4. Get creative.

Children should be encouraged to create their own characters.?It’s a great time to let your little artist’s creativity shine!

5. Get spooky.
According to Venokur and Goldberg, typical Halloween themes such as witches, vampires and ghosts are always in style.
