City funds AZ undercover sting
New York City sponsored an undercover guns bust in Phoenix last week. Eight people, trained by a city-selected and city-funded firm, were involved in a Jan. 23 sting at the Crossroads of the West Gun Show.
Because 90 percent of guns used in New York come from out of state, the city funds undercover stings targeting gun suppliers.
City officials revealed undercover video yesterday showing investigators able to buy guns without background checks. In two successful sales, investigators even said they “couldn’t pass” a background check.
Operators at the gun show signed an agreement with the city promising to now require such checks.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly criticized background-check-free sales of weapons like Glocks. “It is a loophole that you could drive a truck through, and fill that truck with guns,” Kelly said.
