Dems jump on Scott Brown over Elizabeth Warren ‘clothes’ comments

Elizabeth Warren testifying before a House subcommittee earlier this year.

State democrats are harping on Republican Sen. Scott Brown today who made comments this morning about Elizabeth Warren and her taking off – or not taking off – her clothes.

The exchange occurred during Brown’s call in to WZLX morning show “Karlson & McKenzie” and focused on Brown posing for Cosmopolitan magazine decades ago.

He was asked a question about a comment made by Elizabeth Warren, one of the Democratic candidates for Brown’s seat. She said during a debate this week that she didn’t have to take her clothes off to pay for college.

“Have you officially responded to Elizabeth Warren’s comments about how she didn’t take her clothes off,” the DJs asked Brown.

“Thank God,” Brown said.

Brown’s reply caused laughter among the DJs. “That’s what I said,” one of them replied.

“The bottom line is I didn’t go to Harvard. I went to the school of hard knocks. I did whatever I had to do to pay for school,” said Brown. “You know, whatever. Let them throw stones.”

Within hours the state Democratic Party issued a statement about the jab.

“Sen. Brown’s comments are the kind of thing you would expect to hear in a frat house, not a race for U.S. Senate. We keep waiting for Scott Brown to take his campaign out of the gutter, but unfortunately it seems like the junior senator has determined that mudslinging and dirty tricks are the only way he can distract Massachusetts voters from his record of voting in lockstep with Tea Party Republicans,” said Massachusetts Democratic Party Executive Director Clare Kelly.

The party also posted on its Twitter page a petition to call on Brown to “take his campaign out of the gutter & apologize to MA women.”

Brown’s campaign said that it was elitist for Warren, a Harvard professor, to look down on Brown’s decisions, according to the Globe.
