Driver who thought car was in park struck Philly officer during traffic stop
Police believe the incident in which a motorist struck a police officer in Center City this morning was an accident, a spokeswoman said.
An officer from the 6th District was performing a traffic stop at 1120 Filbert Street shortly before 10:30 a.m. when the car in question backed up and hit her.
According to police, the driver thought the car was in park, but it was actually in reverse, so when she hit the pedal, it rolled backward.
A police spokeswoman said that no charges are are likely to be filed, as the driver did not leave the scene and the mix-up appears to have been unintentional.
The officer is in stable condition at Hahnemann University Hospital.
