Wheelchair-bound woman hit by three cars in fatal hit and run
A wheelchair-bound Wilmington, DE woman was fatally hit last night in a triple hit-and-run, according to state police.
Edith A. McFarland, 58, was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of South Market Street, or US 13, in Wilmington when, around 6:35 p.m., she was struck by a gold truck or SUV and ejected from her wheelchair into the street.
Two additional cars then hit McFarland as she lay immobilized. None of the three vehicles stopped, all fleeing southbound on US 13. McFarland was pronounced dead on the scene.
State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the incident. State troopers are attempting to locate the drivers and vehicles that fled the crash and are searching for a gold truck or SUV with front-end and grill damage.
