Dennis Veteri: Glassboro man charged in Geno’s assault on Rangers fans

A Glassboro, N.J., man has been charged with aggravated assault against two Rangers fans outside Geno’s Steaks following the NHL Winter Classic.

Police said Dennis Veteri, 32, was one of three men sporting Flyers jerseys who attacked two men wearing Rangers jerseys outside the South Philadelphia steak shop around 7 p.m. shortly after the Rangers defeated the Flyers 3-2 at Citizens Bank Park.

One of the victims, a 30-year-old male, was taken to a New Jersey hospital and treated for facial contusions, abrasions and lacerations requiring stitches. The second victim did not seek medical attention.

Cell phone video of the assault, which was posted on YouTube, shows the suspects continuing to punch and kick the victims once they were on the ground. One victim was identified as Neal Aurrichio, an Iraq war veteran and police officer in Woodbridge, N.J. He will need reconstructive surgery on his face, according to reports.

Through the investigation, detectives developed Veteri as one of the suspects. After police obtained an arrest warrant Veteri turned himself in Thursday. He was arraigned early this morning on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, conspiracy and recklessly endangering another person. He posted $100,000 bail and is scheduled for a Jan. 31 preliminary hearing.

Police are still looking for at least two other suspects.
