UPDATED $1k reward for six teens sought in random mob beating of Vietnam vet in Olney (VIDEO)

These teens are wanted for a seemingly-random assault Tuesday night.

Police are looking for six teens who brutally assaulted a 64-year-old Vietnam veteran in Olney Tuesday night, leaving him with severe injuries.

The victim was walking northbound on the 5000 block of North 5th Street at 6:12 p.m. to meet his wife at the bus stop when he passed a group of six teens walking southbound. One of the teenagers then turned, ran back up behind the man and hit him, causing him to immediately drop, according to police.

Once he was down, two or three additional teens piled on. They punched and kicked him, causing serious injuries to his face, hands and head, then fled southbound on 5th Street.

Lt. George McClay of Northwest Detectives said that the
beating appeared unplanned and, given the severity of the
assault, he was surprised the man survived.

“I have six juveniles from the neighborhood. They picked a guy that was walking
down the street minding his own business, going to
pick his wife up at the bus stop, and these animals decided they were going to
attack him for no reason,” he said. “They broke his orbitals and broke his skull for no
reason whatsoever.”

Investigators are asking for the neighborhood’s help, though they have already received an outpouring of support, including from the Fraternal Order of Police, who is offering a $1,000 reward for the suspects’ arrests.

“We got a lot of tips already, so we’re looking for more, but we still got to
put it all together,” McClay said. He said that he does expect to make arrests in the case.

Once caught, the teens could be charged as adults and may face attempted murder charges, police said.

Investigators are looking for a group of black and Hispanic males, aged 15 to 18. One was wearing an orange hoodie and jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to dial 911, submit an anonymous tip online or by dialing 215-686-TIPS (8477) or to call Northwest Detectives at 215-686-3353 or 3354.
