Say cheese, MBTA riders: Boston T Crush launches this week

Riders can take snapshots of fellow commuters, upload them to BostonTcrush.com, and let the world rate how attractive they think they are. The site is scheduled to launch this week. It's like "HotorNot.com" meets the MBTA.

Start looking your best before your commute because starting this week the T paparazzi could be snapping your photo and uploading it to the Web.

Creators of the London- based TubeCrush.net and New York City’s SubwayCrush.net, a place where riders can post discreetly taken photos of attractive travelers for the public to rate, are launching an MBTA version, BostonTcrush.com, in just about a day.

And they are asking for picture submissions already.

“We have loads and loads of fans in Boston, and it’s the third-highest in views coming into the [current] site,” said Stephen Motion, one of the co-founders.

Motion said the idea came to him and several friends during a night of drinking; and as soon as it launched, it soared.

The premise is simple: When you see a person you think is good looking, snap a photo. Then, share it with fellow commuters. Everyone else can then comment on it, or rate it accordingly.

Motion said they set a standard that is “complimentary” not “creepy.”

The original sites only feature male subjects, but the Boston launch will also include the ladies, he said, in an effort to connect people with their crushes.

“You have to be a bit more careful with girls. We didn’t want to encourage street harassment and we wanted to make sure the tone of the site had been set and established,” said Motion.

“But I think Boston will be a big hit.”

Although they haven’t had complaints, several people have asked the creators to take down photos from their site. Motion happily obliged.
