In a 1005 to 653 vote, members of the Park Slope Food coop voted against the proposal to boycott products from Israel.

The vote tonight was on a referendum on whether to vote on a proposed ban on Israeli products.

According to the New York Daily News, hundreds of people turned out at Brooklyn Tech High School in Fort Greene for a meeting that lasted for hours. A total of 46 people spoke.

The call was to boycott Israeli products in protest of Israel’s policies toward Palestine.

At the food co-op, items that would be affected under the ban include paprika, a make-your-own seltzer machine, vegan marshmallows, olive pesto and produce.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg blasted the co-op’s decision to hold the vote.

“These are businesses that should be run as businesses,” Bloomberg said, speaking at the St. Patrick’s Parade in Bay Ride, according to the New York Post. “I certainly am adamantly opposed to boycotting Israeli products … Israel is a very important ally of America. We shouldn’t forget that.”

Below are tweets from the hours-long meeting.
