Bronx woman charged with neglecting, starving pit bulls Cagney and Lacey

And Lacey was a mere 15.2 pounds. Both dogs have now been restored to good health and each has gained 11 pounds.

Humane Law Enforcement agents with the New York ASPCA arrested a Bronx woman on Friday after she allegedly starved and neglected her two seven-month-old pit bulls, Cagney and Lacey.

Earlier this year, ASPCA agents, who have the power to make arrests, responded to a complaint of two alarmingly skinny dogs being kept inside the home of Gillian Irving in the Norwood section of the Bronx.

Once they got to the Webster Avenue home, the agents found the dogs appeared to be neglected.

Irving relinquished Cagney and Lacey to the agents, and they were transported to the ASPCA’s Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital on the Upper East Side for treatment.

After being evaluated, ASPCA veterinarians determined that Cagney and Lacey had been starved: Cagney weighed 16.4 pounds, and Lacey was only 15.2 pounds, according to ASPCA officials.

Both pit bulls have gained 11 pounds each since being treated at the ASPCA. Cagney now weighs 27 pounds and Lacey weighs 26.9 pounds.

Both pooches are still recovering but will be available for adoption soon.

Irving, 27, was arrested by ASPCA agents, and charged with two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. If convicted, she faces up to two years in jail.
