Everything you need to know about Enterprise’s landing in NYC

The Enterprise will land Friday, officials hope.

After a rain delay, the space shuttle Enterprise will arrive in New York, its new home, Friday.

Officials delayed the arrival of the retired space shuttle – which will land strapped to a 747 at JFK Friday morning – after rainy weather earlier this week.

The Enterprise will be mounted to a NASA 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, and will fly from Washington D.C., gliding at a low altitude over different parts of the city and landmarks like the Statue of Liberty.

At JFK, the Enterprise will be placed on a barge and pulled by tugboat up the Hudson River to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, where it will be lifted by crane onto the flight deck.

The Intrepid exhibit is scheduled to start this summer.

The Enterprise was one of several retired shuttles given to museums last April. Despite its prestigious role in NASA’s space program, its Friday flight might rank close to as high as it ever flew — it never went to space.
