Frieze Art Fair travels to Randall’s Island
The Frieze Art Fair opens Friday on Randall’s Island, making its U.S. debut.
The British-born art fair features 180 galleries from around the globe, beginning Friday and running through Monday.
The Frieze Art Fair launches every October in London’s Regent’s Park, featuring work from nearly 200 art galleries alongside projects specially commissioned for the event. The exhibits, which focus on contemporary art and living artists, draw about 60,000 people each year, according to organizers.
To get there, the New York Water Taxi will provide ferry service to Randall’s Island, departing about every 15 to 20 minutes from East 35th Street. The service is free to passengers with tickets to the Frieze Art Fair.
And that service might ultimately be every weekend — DNAinfo reported today that the city signed a deal with New York Water Taxi for weekend ferry service.
Similarly, the city organized ferries to Governor’s Island to boost summer visits.
This will be the first regular weekend service to Randall’s Island, and will likely leave from a 90th Street pier.
